In 2018, the poet Joe Weil asked me to create some images in response to his poems about birds. The species he selected were local to the area in and around Elizabeth, NJ, where Joe is from. From my home in Texas, I tried to remember what it felt like to watch birds in the woods and the streets of New England. I settled on collages of the birds, using images from their habitats (both urban and rural).
